Tea of the Month: May 2014

Hi All!  I’ve had some long weeks lately but I’m glad to share my pick for May’s Tea of Month.  I was sent some tea samples from Teasenz for my consideration. If you are unfamiliar with this company,  Teasenz is a company that believes in quality tea. They take time to travel to various farms in China to select the best leaves for their customers. They offer an online tea shop with worldwide shipping options.

I wanted to take enough time to try them out before sharing my thoughts. At this point, I can safely say that during May their Yunnan Gold Tea  was my favorite.  Yunnan Gold Tea is a black tea from the Yunnan province of China, which  is referred to as the “birthplace of tea”.  So, I was beyond curious about the various aspects of this tea.

You can see in the picture above that the tea is black with distinct golden tips.  As far as black teas are concerned, this one has a milder flavor than other varieties. It isn’t bitter or too strong for taste buds that prefer a gentle touch.  It is also a sweeter black tea with notes of honey tempered by earthy-peppery tones. In my opinion, this is a very smooth tea that goes great with a light biscuit or cookie.  It is perfect for someone that likes black tea but prefers one that is sweeter and non-abrasive. This will be a tea that I will continue to go to in the future, especially for pairings with sweet treats.

Have you tried this type of tea? If so, share your thoughts below in the comments.
